Fairtrade Art Competition 2024

At the end of school on 19th November, children from all year groups flocked to the hall to take part in a celebration of Fairtrade and artistic flair. Whilst Fairtrade Fortnight this year was officially in September, the children all agreed that we should be fair throughout the year and celebrate the people who provide us with such wonderful products all around the world.

Whilst everyone is aware of chocolate, tea, coffee and chocolate, Fairtrade flowers are less well known. As they are often  imported from abroad, especially at this time of year, it’s just as important to acknowledge and support the need for fair trading of these products as well. And what beautiful products they are, too!

Heidi from year 6 said “It was really fun, everyone could share their artwork and express themselves.”

Matt, the Academy Community Pioneer said, “In our globalised world, it’s so essential that we raise our next generation with an understanding of where our products come from, and how important it is that people are not mistreated in their production. Everyone took great joy from working in many different media to produce their interpretation of these beautiful blooms, and at the same time I’m confident that all the children have come away from the project with a better understanding of Fair Trade, as well as a deep sense of satisfaction in producing beautiful, creative works of art.”

A huge well done to our winners. Nora, Winnie, Sophia and Stanley
