Newsletter – June Week 3

Dear Parents / Carers,
On Wednesday 5th July, we will be having our ‘move-up’ morning. Children will come into school as normal, they will have their register then will move to their new class to meet their new teacher ready for September. Below is a list of staffing for September:
Nursery – Mrs Tagg & Miss Goodwin
Reception – Mrs Williams & Mrs Rushton
Year 1 – Mrs Elkin (Monday, Tuesday & alternate Wednesdays), Mrs Harris (alternate Wednesdays, Thursday & Friday) & Mrs Bebbington
Year 2 – Mrs Hartley & Mrs Ratcliffe
Year 3 – Mrs Dickens (our new teacher and SENDCo)
Year 4 – Miss Davies (covering Mrs Rafferty’s maternity leave for the whole year)
Year 5 – Miss Coleman
Year 6 – Mrs Sharman
Mrs Shaw, Mrs Oliver and Dr Fletcher are the TAs who will support across KS2
Mrs Hughes is our cover supervisor, so will teach in most of the classes at various times of the week.
Road Safety
Over the last week, I have been quite shocked over the amount of children (and parents) who are not crossing the road safely. Over the next few weeks, the staff will be taking children off timetabled subjects to talk about road safety. Please can we ask that you help with this important issue too.
The area outside of the main gates is part of the road. It is not part of the school driveway. The highways agency owns this road, not the school. We will be emphasising that they should always use the pavement to walk on. I know that several children will walk down this road instead of the pavement when coming into school and leaving school. Unfortunately most of the time they don’t look for traffic which is such a worry.
Summer Reading Challenge – from the library ….
It’s nearly time for those long summer holidays again which also means that it’s also the time that libraries start to promote our Summer Reading Challenge. As per usual, to complete the challenge, we ask children to read at least 6 books and visit a library on at least 3 different occasions. On their reading journey they will be presented with a folder of activities and stickers which introduces the main characters from this year’s challenge and those who complete the challenge receive a medal and a certificate too.
This year’s challenge takes place from Saturday 8th July – Monday 11th September 2023. The theme – ‘Ready, Set, Read’ –aims to keep children’s minds and bodies active over the summer break, empowering young people to forge new connections with others and unleash the power of play, sport and physical activity through reading
What are the benefits for your pupils and your school? The Summer Reading Challenge can:
- Help to prevent the summer reading ‘dip’ for pupils
- Ensure your pupils are ready for their return to school in the autumn
- Support the transition between year groups and key stages
- Improve language skills, especially for those for whom English is a second language
For those children who complete the challenge, please bring your certificates in on the first Friday back for the Celebration Assembly.
Sporting Events
We have had a very busy week competing against other schools this National Sports Week. Firstly, our year 6 football team competed against 9 other schools at the new sports facilities at Newcastle Town FC. The boys showed great resilience and determination so well done to Thomas, Vlad, James, Oliver, Ruben, Ezra and Harry.
Next, our year 2 football team played at the same venue and made it all the way to the semi-finals! Well done to Frank, Sebastian, Luca, Eren and Oscar.
Then our cricket team, who had won all their games in their group stages, went to the Newcastle finals. They achieved third place and were amazing. Well done Emma (captain), Sofia, Georgia, James, Oliver, Vlad, Ruben and Ezra.
Mrs Sharman is very proud of all of the children who competed this week.
Thursday 29th June
We are asking children to come to school in bright coloured clothes for the ‘Launch into kindness’ day. It will be a day to talk about being kind to everyone, no matter who you are.

Complaints off local residents
Unfortunately, we’ve had some complaints off residents near to The Plaisaunce. They are all concerning some of our children ripping branches off trees and putting the branches into the roads along with being rude the residents when they’ve spoken to the children. Please can I ask that if your child plays in this area, they don’t get involved with this anti-social behaviour. Thank you.
Thank you as ever for your continued support.
Take care and stay safe.
Mrs Wilmer
Absences
Please report any absences on the first day of the absence to Mrs Dean on 01782 470401 (please leave a message if I am not in the office) or email angela.dean@coopacademies.co.uk .
